In the world of burning software, Nero Burning ROM is clearly the most popular application. But despite its popularity, this software is expensive, takes a lot of system resources and it's not so intuitive to use. There are other programs which offer exactly what the average user wants, without including useless features and making the interface difficult to use, as it's the case with Nero. One of these programs is DAEMON Tools Pro. This simple Windows application can perform numerous operations regarding optical discs. These include creating disc images, mounting them and burning them to any blank disc.

The program is very simple to install and also simple to use. If you are running Windows Vista and 7, DAEMON Tools Pro offers the possibility to add a desktop widget, for accessing the application more quickly. After installing and running the application, the user will be presented with a simple graphical interface which has all the controls clearly placed inside a graphical toolbar. Using this toolbar, one can create a new disc image from any type of disc, whether it's a CD or a DVD. The reading speed can be adjusted and it's recommended to set a lower reading speed in case the disc is scratched, for making sure that all the files will be properly read and that the image will be created successfully.

After the disc image has been created, the user can explore its contents directly from the interface or by mounting it into a virtual optical drive. DAEMON Tools Pro supports adding a large number of virtual drivers into the system. Besides mounting and exploring its files, an image file can also be burned to a blank disc, using a configurable burning speed. At this point, the program is compatible with virtually any disc recorder. Furthermore, existing disc images can be converted to the ISO format, supporting a wide range of image formats.

In case the user has a rewritable disc in his drive rather than a normal one, he can easily erase it using the special program feature, for burning data on it again and again.
